Mobile, Alabama – A day after reaching their first national semifinals in program history, the fourth-seed SCAD women's tennis team run came up short as the Bees fell to top-seed Georgia Gwinnett 5-1 at the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Friday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Georgia Gwinnet jumped out to early lead earning points at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1 doubles Camille Gbaguidi and Paige Murdock traded points with Valeria Podda and Sophie Feller but ultimately dropped the point 8-6 to give the Grizzles a 3-0 lead.
The Grizzlies extended their lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. SCAD cut the deficit to 4-1 as Karina Rovira defeated Sophie Feller 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Georgia Gwinnett earned a point at No. 5 singles to clinch the match.
Gbaguidi, Murdock, and Daniella Arcila's match were halted in the second set.
The Bees finish the season with a program best 18-2 record, including an 18 match win streak.
