Mobile, Alabama – The fourth-seed SCAD women's tennis team won four straight singles matches to defeat fifth-seed Brenau 5-2 and advance to the semifinals of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Thursday. This marks the first time in program history that the Bees have advanced to the national semifinals.
The Bees will face top-seed Georgia Gwinnett, who defeated Indiana Wesleyan 5-0, Friday at 10 a.m.
SCAD struck first as Camille Gbaguidi and Paige Murdock teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to give the Bees an early 1-0 lead. With the win, the duo improves to 19-0 at No. 1 doubles this season.
Brenau earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
SCAD tied the score 2-2 as Daniella Arcila defeated Paula Rives 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Murdock followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while Karina Rovira earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to give the Bees a 4-2 advantage.
Gbaguidi clinched the match for SCAD with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Faytha Berjane at No. 1 singles. With the win Gbaguidi improves to 19-0 on the season.
The Bees extended their win streak to program best 18 straight matches and are 18-1 overall this season.
