SCAD Blanks William Carey to Advance to Quarterfinals

Mobile, Alabama – The fourth-seeded SCAD Women's Tennis team opened championship play with a 5-0 win over 13th-seed William Carey in the second round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Wednesday night. The Bees advance to the quarterfinals against fifth-seed Brenau, who defeated Davenport 5-0, Thursday at 10 a.m.

SCAD began the match up 2-0 by earning points at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by walkover. Camille Gbaguidi and Paige Murdock teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Karina Rovira and Julia Albuquerque earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles to give the Bees a 4-0 lead heading into singles play.

Albuquerque followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for SCAD. Gbaguidi and Rovira both won the first set of their individual matches but play was halted in the second set.

The Bees extended their win streak to 17 straight matches.
