Bees Sting Keiser 5-4; Claim Second Straight Sun Conference Regular Season Title

Savannah, Georgia – The fourth-ranked SCAD women's tennis team rallied in singles to defeat 12th-ranked Keiser 5-4 to claim their second straight The Sun Conference regular season title. With the win the Bees improve to 13-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play, while the Seahawks fall to 10-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

SCAD struck first as Camille Gbaguidi and Paige Murdock teamed up for an 8-3 win over Teodora Stanciu and Lola Garcia, who is ranked 12th in the NAIA. The duo of Gbaguidi and Murdock improve to 14-0 on the season at No. 1 doubles. Keiser won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Julia Albuquerque even the score 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Albuquerque improves to 13-1 in singles play this season. Daniella Arcila followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Livia Toth to give SCAD a 3-2 lead. Gbaguidi extend SCAD's lead to 4-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Laura Ortega. Gbaguidi improves to 13-0 at No. 1 singles this season.

Keiser picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 3 singles to tie the match 4-4.

At No. 2 singles, Murdock won the first set 6-4. In the second set, the match was tied a 5-5 when Murdock won the next set to take a 6-5 advantage. Murdock eventually won the next game to win the set and clinch the match for the Bees.

SCAD has won three out of the last four Sun Conference regular season titles and have won their last 15 matches against conference opponents. This season, the Bees have posted a 33-3 record in singles play against conference opponents.

The Bees will return to the court tomorrow, April 9, when they travel to Brunswick, Georgia to face Coastal Georgia. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
