Bees Fall to 7th-Ranked St. Andrews 9-8 in Overtime

Laurinburg, North Carolina - Eric Potts netted four goals and dished out one assist but it wasn't enough as the ninth-ranked SCAD men's lacrosse team fell to 7th-ranked St. Andrews 9-8 in overtime Saturday afternoon. With the win the Knights improve to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the SELC, while the Bees fall to 0-1 and 0-1 in conference play.

The Bees jumped out to a quick start outscoring the Knights 4-1 in the opening period. SCAD capitalized on two St. Andrews penalties as two of the four goals came in man-up situation. The Knights responded in the second quarter outscoring SCAD 2-1 to cut the lead to 5-3 at the break.

St. Andrews carried the momentum into the second half and outscored the Bees 5-3 in the second half to tie the game 8-8 at the end of regulation. The Knights scored the game-winning in overtime for the 9-8 final.

Potts led the Bees with five points, while Jack Cioffi and Griffin Hunt each netted a pair of goals. Samuel Button and Philip Sussingham each dished out an assist.

Connor Goonan made 15 saves in the cage for the Bees, while James Simmons led SCAD with seven ground balls.

The Bees return to action Saturday, February 13, when they host College of Charleston in the home opener. The game is slated for 1 p.m. at the SCAD Athletic Complex. Livestats will be available for the game here.
