Savannah, Georgia - The fourth-ranked SCAD women's tennis swept the six singles matches to overcome an early deficit and defeat Middle Georgia State University 7-2 Saturday afternoon at Bacon Park. With the win the Bees improve to 6-1, while the Knights fall to 5-4.
SCAD struck first as Camille Gbaguidi and Paige Murdock teamed up for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles to give the Bees an early 1-0 lead. With the win, the duo improves to 7-0 at No. 1 doubles this season. The Knights evened the score with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles Daniella Arcila and Anastasia Castro rallied to force a tiebreaker, but ultimately dropped the match 9-8 (7-4) to give Middle Georgia State a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
The Bees rallied in singles play sweeping all six singles matches. Murdock led the way with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lara Parsiani at the No. 2 position to tie the match 2-2. Angie Dahnous and Julia Albuquerque followed with straight set wins to extend the lead to 4-2. At No. 3 singles, Karina Rovira won the first set by winning the tiebreaker 7-0 and then won the second set 6-2 to clinch the match for the Bees. Arcila and Gbaguidi both won their match 6-4, 6-4 for the 7-2 final.
SCAD will return to the court Saturday when they host Indiana Wesleyan at 3 p.m. at Bacon Park
