Lakeland, Florida - The fourth-ranked SCAD women's tennis won five of the six singles points to defeat 19th-ranked Southeastern 8-1 in their Sun Conference opener Friday afternoon. With the win, the Bees improve to 2-1 overall, while the Fire fall to 0-1.
The two teams played the six singles matches first. Daniella Arcila got the scoring started with a 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Reigning Sun Conference player of the week, Camille Gbaguidi extended the Bees lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Angie Dahnous and Julia Albuquerque posted straight sets win at No. 5 and No. 4 singles to give the Bees a 4-0 lead.
Southeastern cut the lead to 4-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Karina Rovira won the first 6-1, before dropping the second set 1-6. Rovira pulled out a 7-5 win in the third set to clinch the match for the Bees.
SCAD swept all three doubles matches for the 8-1 final.
The Bees will return to the court tomorrow when they travel to Miami, Florida to face conference foe St. Thomas. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
