Bees Win Five Events but Falls to Garner-Webb

Savannah, Georgia – The top-ranked SCAD men's swimming team won five individual events but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell to NCAA Division I Garner-Webb 203-112 Saturday at the Chatham County Aquatics Center.

Joel Ax notched top honors in three individual events, while Ryan Sweat and Connor Wilson took top honors in one event a piece.

Ax started the meet by winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.55. He followed that up by winning the 50 freestyle hitting the wall in 24.91. Ax continued to shine this morning winning the 500 free touching in 4:35.78. He finished off the meet with a second place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.98.

Sweat swam a season-best 1:54.48 in the 200 butterfly to take top honors. Sweat followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.40. Teammate Mark Shvartsman finished third in the event hitting the pad in 52.12.

Wilson notched top honors in the 100 breast with a time of 59.59. He out touched Iv Simmons by 0.04 of a second to claim the win. Wilson finished second in the 200 individual medley, third in the 200 backstroke, and fifth in the 400 individual medley.

In the 100 freestyle, Tim Olbrich finished third with a time of 48.23, which is a NAIA "A" standard, while Nick Wargo hit a "B" standard with a time of 48.62.

All four of the Bees relays finished second.

The Bees will wrap up their regular season Friday, January 22, when they travel to Mount Berry, Georgia to compete in the Vikings Classic.
