Mobile, Alabama – The fourth-seed SCAD women's tennis team opened up their national tournament campaign with a 5-0 win over Concordia (Ca.) in the second round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.
SCAD got off to a fast start as
Camille Gbaguidi and
Carolina Viteri teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles to score the first point of the match.
Maria Barragan and
Daniella Arcila extended SCAD's lead to 2-0 with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Teaming up for the first time this season,
Karina Rovira and
Anastasia Castro pulled out a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles to give the Bees a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Barragan and Rovira both won their respective singles match 6-3 to complete the sweep for SCAD. The Bees won the first set in the four other singles matches before play was halted.
The Bees will face fifth-seed Xavier in the quarterfinals tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
