Savannah, Georgia - The sixth-ranked women's tennis team defeated 22
nd-ranked Coastal Georgia 7-2, Friday morning a Bacon Park. With the win the Bees improve to 10-4, while the Mariners falls to 8-6.
The Bees struck first as
Karina Rovira and
Daniella Arcila picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles to give SCAD the early 1-0 lead. This is the third straight match that Rovira and Arcila scored the Bees first point. Coastal Georgia won No. 2 doubles, before
Camille Gbaguidi and
Maria Barragan pulled out an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to give SCAD a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
SCAD's strong play continued in singles play as Arcila and Barragan won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectfully, to extend the Bees lead to 4-1.
Janina Mistecky clinched the match for the Bees with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. At No. 1 singles, Gbaguidi came from behind in the first set to win the tie breaker 7-3 and won the second set 6-0 to extend the Bees lead. The Mariners won No. 3 singles to cut the lead to 6-2, before Rovira pulled out a three set win at No. 5 singles for the 7-2 final.
The Bees return to action next week when they travel to Daytona Beach, Florida to compete in the Sun Conference Tournament. Stay tuned to SCADathletics.com for dates and times.
