Box Score Hardeeville, South Carolina - The SCAD men's lacrosse team scored six first quarter goals en route to a 17-7 win over Tennessee Wesleyan Sunday afternoon at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win the Bees improve to 5-5, while the Bulldogs fall to 5-4.
SCAD struck first as
Justin McGinnis netted an unassisted goal on the Bees first possession of the game. Less then a minute later,
Jack Cioffi connected with
Nate Travis for a goal to extend the lead to 2-0. SCAD took advantage of a Bulldogs turnover as
Brendan Buckley picked up the ground ball, pushed upthe field to get a one-on-one with the goalie, andnetted his first goal of the game. After a Tennessee Wesleyan goal,
Reed Abahazie found Cioffi in front of the cage for a goal to extend the Bees lead to 4-1. McGinnis and Buckley scored back-to-back goals to give SCAD a 6-1 lead after the opening period.
The Bulldogs scored two goals in the first three minutes of the second quarter to cut the lead to 6-3. SCAD responded as
Shawn Horsey, Travis, Cioffi, and McGinnis all netted unassisted goals to give SCAD a 10-3 lead at the half.
Parker Thomas scored an unassisted goal for Tennessee Wesleyan less then a minute into the third quarter. SCAD won the ensuing faceoff and on the Bees possession Buckley found Travis cutting towards the cage for a goal. The Bulldogs scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 11-6 after three periods.
Doug Henry won the opening faceoff of the third quarter and on the Bees possession Cioffi connected with the back of the cage for his third goal of the game. SCAD scored five unanswered goals, including one from
Matt Trinkle and
Griffin Hunt, to take a 17-6 lead with 7:14 remaining. Tennessee Wesleyan netted a goal for the 17-7 final.
Travis led the Bees with five points, while Buckley, Cioffi, and McGinnis tallied four points apiece. Abahazie dished out a team-high two assists.
Henry finished the day 15-24 on faceoffs with one caused turnover and one ground ball.
Connor Goonan made ten saves to improve to 5-5 in the cage this season.
SCAD will return to action Friday night when they travel to Statesboro, Georgia to face Georgia Southern. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
