Box Score Hardeeville, South Carolina – The SCAD men's lacrosse team couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell to Indiana Tech 14-8 Saturday afternoon at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win the Warriors improve to 2-2, while the Bees fall to 2-4.
Indiana Tech struck first as Brian Nichter netted a goal on the Warriors first possession. Two Minutes later Jace Childs scored a goal to extend Indiana Tech's lead to 2-0. The Bees defense stepped up holding the Warriors scoreless on their next 11 shots, including
Connor Goonan making six of his 16 saves, in the opening period. SCAD got on the board as
Justin McGinnis put a well-placed shot past the goalie to cut the lead to 2-1 after the first quarter.
The Warriors started the second quarter scoring four unanswered goal to take a 6-1 lead with 4:10 remaining. SCAD responded as
Reed Abahazie found
CJ Curran in front of the cage for a goal. The Bees cut the lead to 6-3 as McGinnis scored an unassisted goal with 17 second remaining in the first half.
It was a similar story in the second half as Indiana Tech scored five straight goals to begin the third quarter. McGinnis and
Griffin Hunt scored back-to-back goals for the Bees to cut the lead to 11-5.
Jack Cioffi netted an unassisted goal less than a minute into the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 11-6. After a Warriors goal, McGinnis found Cioffi cutting toward the cage for a goal with 8:47 remaining. Indiana Tech scored two of the final three goals for the 14-8 final.
McGinnis led the Bees with five points, while Cioffi netted a pair of goals. Abahazie tallied a goal and an assist in the contest.
The Bees will return to action next Saturday when they host Florida Atlantic at 2 p.m.
