Lawrenceville, Georgia – The sixth-ranked SCAD women's tennis team swept the doubles matches en route to an 8-1 win over Cumberland Monday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Courts. With the win the Bees improve to 6-3, while the Bulldogs drop to 4-4.
Carolina Viteri and
Anastasia Castro got the Bees started, winning their first doubles match of the season, with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Karina Rovira and
Daniella Arcila extended SCAD's lead to 2-0 with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Camille Gbaguidi and
Maria Barragan pulled out a 9-7 win at No. 1 singles to give SCAD a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Bees kept the momentum going in singles play as Arcila, Barragan, Gbaguidi, Rovira, and Viteri all won in straight sets to give SCAD an 8-0 advantage. Castro won the first set at No. 6 singles, before dropping the second and third set for the 8-1 final.
Barragan improved to 7-1 in singles play on the season, while Gbaguidi moved to 7-2 at No. 1 singles.
The Bees return to action Friday, March 27, when they host Bethune-Cookman. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Bacon Park.
