Lawrenceville, Georgia - The sixth-ranked SCAD women's tennis team fell to top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett 8-1 Sunday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Courts.

The Grizzles jumped out to an early lead sweeping the doubles matches to give Georgia Gwinnett a 3-0 lead.

The Bees battled back as Maria Barragan won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to cut the deficit to 3-1. Georgia Gwinnett earned straight set wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No.6 singles to clinch the match.

Camille Gbaguidi took the top-ranked women's player, Valeria Podda, to three sets before ultimately falling 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Carolina Viteri won the second set 6-2, before dropping the third set 10-2 for the 8-1 final.

SCAD will return to action tomorrow when they face Cumberland University in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
