Late Rally Dooms Bees

Kennesaw, Georgia - The SCAD men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell to Kennesaw State 11-8 Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. With the win the Owls improve to 7-0, while the Bees fall to 2-3.

Kennesaw State netted the first goal of the contest to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. SCAD responded as Nate Travis scored an unassisted goal to even the score 1-1. Justin McGinnis, Shawn Horsey and Jack Cioffi each scored a goals to give the Bees a 4-1 advantage. The Owls netted a goal to cut the lead to 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Kennesaw State started the second quarter scoring back-to-back goals to even the score at 4-4. Minutes later, Griffin Hunt's shot got past the goalie to give the Bees the 5-4 lead at the break.

SCAD came out of the break firing, scoring the first goal of the second half to extend the Bees lead to 6-4. The Owl scored three of the next four goals to even the score at 7-7 after the third quarter.

Kennesaw State outscored SCAD 4-1 in the fourth quarter for the 11-8 final.

McGinnis led the Bees with four points and eight groundballs. Cioffi netted a pair of goals, while Hunt, Horsey, Eric Potts, James Simmons, and Travis each tallied a goal.

Connor Goonan made nine saves and picked up two ground balls in the cage. Andrew Gualtieri led all faceoff men, going 7-9 from the X.

SCAD will return to action Saturday when they host Indiana Tech at the SCAD Athletic Complex. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
