Ft. Myers, Florida – The SCAD men's lacrosse scored five unanswered goals in the final period but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell to Florida Gulf Coast University 9-7 Saturday afternoon. With the win FGCU improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the SELC, while the Bees drop to 1-2 and 0-1 in SELC action.
SCAD struck first as
Brendan Buckley and
Jack Cioffi netted the first two goals of the game to give the Bees an early 2-0 lead. The Eagles responded scoring back-to-back goals to even the score at 2-2 after the first quarter.
FGCU scored seven unanswered goals over the course of two and half quarters to take a 9-2 lead at the start of the fourth. The Bees started to rally as
Griffin Hunt netted an unassisted goal with 14:04 left in the game. The score remained that way until the 6:25 mark when
Justin McGinnis connected with the back of the cage to cut the deficit to 9-4.
Cody Sienkiewicz and McGinnis scored back-to-back goals to bring the Bees within two with 2:58 remaining in the game. SCAD had an opportunity to pull closer but they couldn't convert, allowing FGCU to run out the clock for the 9-7 final.
Connor Goonan finished the day with 13 saves in the cage.
The Bees will return to action March 13 when they face Missouri Baptist. The game will be play at Reinhardt University in Waleska, Georgia and game time is set for 4 p.m.
