Savannah, GA – The eighth-ranked SCAD women tennis team opened their Sun Conference schedule with a 9-0 over Ave Maria University Saturday afternoon at Bacon Park. With the win the Bees improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Sun Conference, while the Gyrenes fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Bees jumped out to a quick start as
Janina Mistecky and
Carolina Viteri took the first doubles point with an 8-0 win.
Maria Barragan and
Camille Gbaguidi added to the lead with an 8-3 win at number one doubles.
Gbaguidi kept her momentum going and defeated Marianna Vargas Ingoglia at the one spot 6-3, 6-2. Barragan cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the number two spot to give the Bees a 5-0 lead.
In her SCAD debut
Anastasia Castro picked up 6-1, 6-4 win at number three singles, while
Isadora Salvetti won 6-1, 6-0 at the four spot.
SCAD returns to action tomorrow, February 1, when they travel to Statesboro, Ga. to take on Georgia Southern. The match will start at 1 p.m.
