Orlando, Florida - The sixth-ranked SCAD women's tennis team remains undefeated in conference play after defeating Warner 7-2 Friday afternoon in Orlando, Florida. With the win, the Bees improve to 5-2 overall and 5-0 against the Sun Conference, while the Royals drop to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
SCAD jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles winning 8-1. With the wins
Daniella Arcila and
Karina Rovira (No. 3 doubles) and
Maria Barragan and
Camille Gbaguidi (No. 1 doubles) are a combined 8-0 in conference doubles matches this season. Warner won the tie-breaker at No. 2 doubles to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into singles play.
Gbaguidi dominant play continued for the Bees with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles,
Janina Mistecky picked up a straight set win to extend the Bees lead to 4-1. Playing because of an injury,
Anastasia Castro won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to clinch the match for SCAD.
Carolina Viteri and Rovira both won in straight sets for SCAD.
Gianna Mitchell dropped the first set before retiring at No. 5 singles for the 7-2 final.
SCAD will look to remain unbeaten in conference play when they face Webber tomorrow afternoon in Orlando, Florida. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
