Savannah, Georgia - The sixth-ranked SCAD women's tennis team remains undefeated in conference play after sweeping St. Thomas University 9-0 Sunday afternoon at Bacon Park. With the win, the Bees improve to 4-2 overall and 4-0 against the Sun Conference, while the Bobcats drop to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
SCAD jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, picking up wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 doubles.
Carolina Viteri and
Janina Mistecky scored the first point of the match with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. No. 3 doubles
Daniella Arcila and
Karina Rovira won their match 8-3, while
Maria Barragan and
Camille Gbaguidi improved to 5-1 on the season at No. 1 doubles with an 8-4 win.
Gbaguidi picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles to extend the Bees lead to 4-0. It was the second time this season Gbaguidi did not allow a point in singles play.
Mistecky, Rovira, and Barragan all won in straight set to clinch the match for SCAD.
Gianna Mitchell split the first two sets at No. 6 singles, before winning the third set 10-3.
The Bees are a perfect 24-0 in singles matches against conference opponents this season.
SCAD will return to action next weekend when they travel to Orlando, Florida for a three game road trip. The Bees will face conference foes Warner and Webber on Friday and Saturday, and wrap up their trip Sunday against Stetson University.
