West Palm Beach, FL – The 8
th-ranked women's tennis team swept all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 win over #7 Northwood Saturday afternoon at Gaines Park. With the win, SCAD improves to 3-2 overall and remains undefeated in conference play, while the Seahawks fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in The Sun Conference.
SCAD jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Maria Barragan and
Camille Gbaguidi lead the Bees with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Daniella Arcila and
Karina Rovira won their match 8-2. The number 2 doubles match went back and forth with Northwood picking up the point winning 9-7.
The Bees continued their good play in singles as Gbaguidi, Barragan, and Rovira picked up straight set wins to clinch the match for SCAD.
Carolina Viteri got off to a quick start at No. 3 singles, winning the first set 6-0. Viteri dropped the second set before winning the third set 6-2 to extend the Bees lead to 6-1.
Janina Mistecky and Arcila both picked up wins in the third set to clinch the sweep for SCAD.
SCAD will return to action Sunday, February 22, when they host Sun Conference rival Saint Thomas. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Bacon Park.
