Women’s Swimming Opens Season with a Win

Melbourne, Florida – The SCAD women's swimming team won every event as they opened their season defeating Florida Tech 155-49 Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Bees were Haley Thompson and Caroline Lepesant who won two events apiece. Thompson won the 200 yard free swimming 1:57.69 and out touched newcomer Julie Henninger 54.94 to 54.97 in the 100 yard free. Lepesant won both the 500 yard free and the 1000 yard free.

Freshman Kandes Soapes swam 59.46 to win the 100 yard back, while Hannah Legg finished second with a time of 1:00.97.

Alle Ragland won the 100 yard breast touching in 1:10.30, while Annie Weber-Callahan swam 1:14.56.

Cadie Crow and Heather Partlow finished first and second, respectfully, in the 100 yard butterfly. Later in the meet Partlow won the 50 yard free, touching the pad in 24.90. Meagan McManus swam 25.36 to finish third, while Julie Woody finished fifth with a time of 25.52.

Soapes led off the 4x100 medley relay swimming a sub 2-minute backstroke. Soapes teamed up with Partlow, Crow, and Henninger to win the race in 4:02.74.

Legg, Rebecca Justus, Allison Smith, and Thompson won the 800 free relay with a time of 8:01.91.

The Bees will return to action Saturday, November 7, when they host Emory and Brenau in a tri meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
