The Men's Lacrosse Team defeated St. Andrews Presbyterian in the last game of the 2014 regular season by a score of 12-6. Because of their seeding in the SELC Tournament the Bees had to face St. Andrews for a second consecutive game in the first round of the SELC Divisional II Tournament in Norcross, Georgia. This time the Knights of St. Andrews got their revenge by beating SCAD 12-8 and bringing to a possible close of the 2014 season for the Bees.
The Bees got off to a very slow start as the Knights outscored SCAD 5-1 by the end of the first quarter. By the end of the half St. Andrews had a 9-3 lead, which proved to be too much for the Bees. They did outscore the Knights after intermission 5-3, but could not make up the 6 goal deficit accrued in the first half of play.
Nate Travis scored 3 goals for the SCAD, and senior
Matt Dean, who was possibly playing his last game for the Bees, scored two. Junior
Doug Henry did his part for the men by winning 9 of his 11 face-offs, while sophomore
Andrew Gualtieri kept pace with his opportunities at face-off by winning 5 of 6. But that was the only statistic that gave SCAD an advantage.
Goalie
Matt Mantel continued his good work at goalie by saving 11 on the day, but it was not enough for the Bees, who just could not get their offense moving. The Bees finished the 2014 season with a 7-6 record. They still have hopes of getting an at-large bid for the MCLA Nationals, but that will be determined after the division championships have concluded.
