M. Lacrosse Earns Its 7th Win against St. Andrews

4/13/2014 8:05:00 AM

The Men's Lacrosse Team went to 7-5 in its victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian over the weekend in Laurinburg, N.C.  The 12-6 score looked like a blow-out, but it was not that easy in the early part of the game.

The Bees ended the first quarter of play down 2-4 and it looked like it was going to be a hard catch-up affair, but the second quarter saw the Bees make an immediate comeback.  With the offensive power of junior Justin McGinnis, SCAD came back with a vengeance and tied the score at 4-4 at halftime.

The second half was a different story in that SCAD took control of the game.  They outscored the Knights 8-2 and put the game away.  McGinnis and Nate Travis provided the offensive momentum for the Bees.  McGinnis contributed 5 goals, while Travis provided the support.  Travis tallied 4 assists for SCAD.

Riley Mate led the Bees in groundballs with 4 and SCAD took 32 shots to score its 12 goals.  Doug Henry and Andrew Gualtieri gave SCAD its momentum by winning 9 of 13 of the faceoffs (5-9 and 4-4, respectively).

The Bees are now 7-5 overall and 3-0 in their division of the SELC conference.  The St. Andrews' game was the last game for SCAD in its regular season play for 2014.

Now it is on to the SELC Tournament.  The Regional Tournament will take place April 25-27 in Johns Creek, Georgia.  Should the Bees prevail in the Regionals, they would then go to the MCLA National Tournament in Orange County, California May 12-17.

Go Bees!!
