Although the SCAD Men's Swimming team, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) program, did not land first place against tough NCAA-level Emory University, the men did very well in many of the individual events. All totaled, the Bees won 7 of the 16 events against the NCAA swimming team. Leading the way for the men was All-American and national titlist Joel Ax who won three individual events. Combined with teammates Andre Farstad, John LaPorta and Nick Wargo in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, SCAD also won the event with a time of 3:11.6.
The SCAD "B" Team of Roger Kjos, JT Bartel, Kyle Peach and Eli Guillou also finished second to the SCAD "A" Team in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, giving the Bees domination of the event.
Tyler Prescott also clocked in at 2:00.34 in the 200 Yard Individual Medley, another huge success. Third place individual finishes included Wargo in the 200 Yard Freestyle, Ryan Searles in the 200 Yard Backstroke and Bradley Green in the 200 Yard Individual Medley. The relay team of Styrbjorn Torell, Hegwein, LaPorta and Wargo also captured a third place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. It was a good day for the Bees as they competed hard and gave up a challenge to a larger program in Emory.
Head Coach Chris Conlon was very pleased with the performance of his team and has high expectations for the Bees when they take part in the Bluegrass Conference Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina in February. Next up for the men will be the Brenau University Invitational on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 in Gainesville, Georgia.
