The Women's Swim team began the 2014-15 swimming season with a strong victory over a talented Florida Tech team. The Chatham County Aquatic Center in Savannah, Georgia, was the scene of a very competitive match between two teams that wanted to begin the new season with a victory.
SCAD began slowly, but pulled ahead of the visiting team in their third event of the day and never looked back. Haley Thompson gave her all as she touched the pad one-and-a-half seconds ahead of her opponent in the 200 Yard Freestyle.
The Lady Bees kept the pressure on Florida Tech. It was a team effort that won the meet. Heather Partlow and Julie Woody were a part of two victories in an event. Partlow earned a solo win in the 50 Yard Freestyle and shared a win with Shannon Cummings, Heather Dundey and Woody in the last event of the day – the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.
In addition to the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Woody also touched the pad first in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Solo victories by Samantha Benson (100 Yard Freestyle) and Caroline Lepesant (500 Yard Freestyle) demonstrated that the Lady Bees are a very talented team. It appears that the Lady Bees will enter the new season with a confidence that their talent is in a team rather than in any one or two gifted swimmers. Head Coach Chris Conlon certainly has some very gifted swimmers.
Next up for the ladies is a meet with NCAA teams from Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia in Atlanta on Friday, Nov. 7.
