M. Swimming Splits with St. Andrews and Emmanuel

Meet Results
 
The second ranked SCAD men travelled to Laurinburg, NC to take on host Emmanuel College and St. Andrews University in a dual meet on Saturday.  The men won 146-52 over Emmanuel, while 5 points were the difference in the St. Andrews meet which spoiled the Bees sweeping for the day.  Coach Chris Conlon commented that there were very solid swims from the men's team. 
 
Leading the way for the men was freshman Joel Ax as he showed once again his dominance in the 1000 Yd Freestyle (9:42.11), the 100 Yd Freestyle (46.63), and the 500 Yd Freestyle (4:44.11).  Ax has won 9 of the last 9 events in his last three meets.
 
Ryan Searles had the other victory for the Bees as he swam a 1:44.83 time in the 200 Yd Freestyle.  Searles also added a second place in the 200 Yd BACK (1:53.51. 
 
The men took a number of second places as Patrick Cardillo took seconds in the 50 Yd FR and the 100 Yd FR with times of 21:63 and 46.93.  Mark Shvartsman added a second in the 200 Yd FR (1:46.39) while Bradley Green turned in a 5:14.26 in the 500 Yd FR.
 
Karl Hegwein (200 Yd IM and 200 Yd BACK), Matt Trinkle (100 Yd FR), Marc Fleischmann (200 Yd BR), and David Scott (200 Yd FLY) added third place points to help the Bees earn a split in the meet.
 
In the relay events SCAD earned two second place finishes.  The team of Hegwein, Styrbjorn Torell, Schvartsman, and Cardillo finished with a time of 3:30.67 in the 400 Yd Medley Relay, while the team of Tim Jarnvik, Scott, Trinkle, and Dan Jardin finished the 400 Yd FR Relay in a time of 3:27.00.
 
The next meet for the Bees with be the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships.  This year the men will travel Charlotte, NC to take part in conference on February 12-15.
