The Men's Swimming Team faced an NCAA Div 1 foe in the College of Charleston and came away with 7 victories out of the 13 possible individual events.  They also won both of the team relay events.  It was a good day for the men as they fell just a few points short in taking the overall victory in this their last home meet of the season.

It was "Senior Day" and the Bees one lone senior, Patrick Cardillo, contributed one of the victories for SCAD by winning the 50 Yd. Freestyle with a time of 21.20.  Cardillo also added a second place finish in the 100 Yd. Freestyle (47.15).

Once again the men were led by freshman Joel Ax.  Ax was selected as the Bluegrass Mountain "Swimmer of the Week" last week when he won all three of the events in which he took part against the Florida Institute of Technology.  Ax repeated his feat again this afternoon against the College of Charleston.  He placed first in the 200 Yd. Freestyle (1:40.30), the 100 Yd. Freestyle (46.33), and the 400 Yd. Individual Medley (4:08.31).

Three other Bees joined Cardillo and Ax by adding victories in their events.  Ryan Searles won the 200 Yd. Backstroke in a time of 1:53.82, Mark Shvartsman won the 100 Yard Butterfly in 50.54, and Karl Hegwein won the 200 Yd. Backstroke in 51.90.

It was not just individually that the Bees shined.  The relay teams combined for first place finishes in the 4x50 Freestyle Relay and the 4x50 Medley Relay.  The team of Cardillo, Shvartsman, Hegwein, and Ax combined for a 1:25.19 in the Freestyle Relay, while Searles, Styrbjorn Torell, Schvartsman, and Cardillo took first place honors in the Medley Relay with a time of 1:35.19.

A few more second place finishes could have meant an overall victory in the meet for the Bees.  They lost the meet by a mere 35 points (112.50-147.50), but the men have positioned themselves for a strong run at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships that will take place on February 12-15 in Charlotte, N.C.

The Bees have one more away match as a warm-up to the conference championships.  They will be travelling to Laurinburg, N.C. on January 25 to take on St. Andrew's University and Emmanuel College.  Let's Go Bees!!
