SCAD's 11 consecutive match winning streak came to an end in a hotly contested quarterfinals match with William Carey (Mississippi). The Lady Bees once again got off to a good start in the doubles competition, winning 2 of the 3 matches. The doubles teams of
Theresa Schmaus /
Maja Plavsic and
Maria Barragan /
Daniella Arcila won their contests 8-6 and 8-5. But unlike yesterday the singles victories were difficult to come by.
Schmaus and Plavsic secured victories, but the Lady Crusaders of William Carey took the next three matches. The remaining Bee on the court was
Daniella Arcila who was battling it out with Julia Angerman at number 4. The match was all that you could hope for in the competiveness of the players. Arcila won the first set, but the second set was a thriller The second set went to a tiebreak that Angerman managed to finally win 7-4. The third and final set also went to Angerman 6-2 so she was able to bring the quarterfinal victory to William Carey. Final score: William Carey 5, SCAD 4. William Carey will now advance to face top-seed Xavier in the semifinals.
What a run it was for the Lady Bees. The last time ladies were on the losing end of a team match was three months ago on February 15 - eleven straight victories. The loss will be hard to take, but the ladies will be coming home with an overall 13-3 record, the best record in SCAD history.
Congratulations ladies on giving us a fantastic 2013 season.
