The #4 seed and #4 nationally ranked SCAD Bees defeated Concordia University (Calif.) 5-1 today at the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship in Mobile, Alabama. The Bees had a bye in the Monday's first round due to its high seed. The victory over Concordia now moves SCAD into the third round where it will face the #5 seed William Carey (Miss.) on Thursday at 1:00 a.m.
In the doubles competition SCAD was able to take two of the three matches. SCAD's reigning 2012 NAIA National Doubles Champions
Theresa Schmaus and
Maja Plavsic won their match 8-2, while SCAD's #2 doubles team of
Maria Barragan and
Daniella Arcila won their hard fought match 8-5.
The two victories meant that SCAD only had to win 3 of the 6 singles matches to advance to the third round. The Bees did not provide any suspense. Its number 1, 2, and 3 singles players won their matches in straight sets allowing the other three singles players to stop their matches to celebrate the second round victory with their teammates.
The victory today extended the winning streak for the ladies to 11 straight and brings their overall record to 13-2.
Congratulations to Coach
Reinaldo Valor and the Lady Bees for their victory. Let's make it 12 straight tomorrow. Go Bees!
