The Men's Lacrosse Team played possibly its best match of the 2013 season. The Bees were hosting a very good Reinhardt College team that brought a 10-3 record to the SCAD Sports Complex. The Bees had only won 2 of its last 8 matches so they knew that they had to have a good Friday to beat a team of this calaber.
The match was consistently one where both teams could never get a major advantage over the other. SCAD only lost the lead one time, but it was not until the final period that SCAD was able to get a 3-goal advantage. The crowd of 120 fans saw
Shelton Polka score 5 goals to pace the Bees. Teammates
Cody Sienkiewicz and
Matt Dean scored 3 apiece.
Mike McQuaid scored the other 2 goals.
It was a very physical game with penalties meted out in numbers that seemed to result in one of the two teams playing a man-down for a greater part of each quarter. The shots taken were plentiful for each team - 45 for SCAD and 39 for Reinhardt. But the defensive play of each of the goalies was superb.
Kreyton Polka saved 13, while the Reinhardt goalie, Erik Carson, saved 14.
When the horn finally ended the match there was a collective sigh of relief - but also one of great satisfaction. It was a well-earned victory for the Bees, who have two road matches remaining. They still have hopes of finishing over .500 for the season. They presently stand at 5-6 with two conference games to be played.
The conference lead is up for grabs, so let's hope that SCAD can have a good roadtrip to Fort Myers on 4/13 to play Florida Gulf Coast and then to Georgia Southern in Statesboro on 4/18 to complete the regular season. Go Bees!
