The men's lacrosse team faced a first year team from Flagler College in an exhibition match today at the SCAD Sports Complex. The results were a lopsided 36-1 victory for the Bees. For those fans that love scoring, the Bees provided a scoring spectacle.
The visiting Flagler team is a “club” team looking forward to competing against seasoned conference opponents, but the SCAD team provided the Saints with a barrage of offense that demonstrated a big difference between club play and conference competition. Sixteen different SCAD Bees scored at least one goal in the victory. Thirteen different Bees had at least one assist.
The statistics were very much in SCAD's favor in every category. The Bees took 66 shots (45 on goal) compared to 5 (3 on goal) for the Saints. SCAD won 27 of the 40 face offs, and had 39 ground balls compared to 10 for the Saints.
Almost everyone on SCAD's roster was involved in the victory, but no one could match the evening that freshman
Mason Threlkeld had. Threlkeld was involved in a third of the 36 points put up on the scoreboard for the Bees. He scored 8 goals and assisted on 4 more scores.
Shelton Polka and
Doug Henry had productive evenings themselves by contributing 5 goals and 1 assist and 3 goals and 3 assists, respectively.
No one expects this kind of offensive output when the Bees begin their play against other seasoned teams, but it had to be a very encouraging sign for Coach Mike Cummings to see a team filled with potential scorers and defensive workhorses. SCAD's next match is against the College of Charleston on 2/2 at the SCAD Sports Complex. Game time starts at 4 p.m. Come out and support your Bees. They are quite a sight to behold.
