Men's Lacrosse Falls to Clemson in Home Opener

2/18/2012 10:12:00 PM

Coming off a 22-1 scoring frenzied victory last week, the Men's Lacrosse team faced a seasoned Clemson University at the SCAD Sports Complex.  The weather was cold and rainy which set the stage for a long evening.

The Tigers scored quickly and often in the first period.  Using a barrage of quick goals, three in a matter of 26 seconds, Clemson built a 6-0 lead after the first period.  SCAD could find no solution to the superior goal play of Demetrius Murray.  The goalie used his quick hands to ward off the Bees shots on goal.  The score at half time was 10-0 Clemson;

Coming out of the break SCAD was subjected to much of the same.  Clemson seemed relentless in their assault by spending the third period on the offensive.  Two more goals in the first three and a half minutes of the period boosted the lead to 12-0.  Finally, at the 9:11 mark of the period Riley Mann sneaked one by the Tiger goalie.  At the end of three periods, the score was 13-1.

In the final period SCAD seemed to find an energy that they had exhibited the previous week.  They found themselves pounding the goal with shots.  More than 20 shots on goal took its toll on the Clemson goalies.  Finally, the Bees started getting good feeds and more precision shots.  The result of their energy and teamwork was a reminder of why the Bees are ranked #1 in their conference.  A score by Jordy McManus at the 12:52 mark made it 13-2.  Another goal by McManus at 6:32 made it 14-3.  McManus seemed to get on a roll.  At the 3:39 mark he scored his third goal of the match - 14-4.

SCAD finished the final period with Doug Henry scoring the Bees final goal at 2:19 reminding the faIthful fans who weathered the rain that SCAD has an offense that has the ability to score and score quickly.  Final score 14-5.  We look forward to seeing more of what was witnessed in the fourth period.  SCAD ultimately demonstrated why they are favored to win their conference.

Next up for the Bees is a trip to Kennesaw, Ga, where they will face the University of Dayton and Indiana Institute of Technology in back to back matchs on 2/24 an 2/25.

Go Bees!
