DULUTH, Ga. – The SCAD Savannah men's lacrosse team broke up a close match at the half with nine second-half goals as the Bees defeated Kennesaw State University 13-2 in the semifinals of the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference Division II Tournament Saturday (April 30) at Northview High School.
The Bees, who are ranked No. 9 in the latest Prodigy Division II Top 25 poll, won their eighth consecutive match and improved to 13-4. SCAD advances to Sunday's (May 1) noon championship match against Elon University, which defeated the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 26-4 in the other semifinal. It will be the first appearance in the title match for the Bees in the program's history.
Trey McKay led the Bees with four goals against the 16th-ranked Owls, including three goals in the second half as SCAD expanded on its 4-1 halftime lead.
Michael Molinaro,
Mike McQuaid and
Derek Shurson each tallied two goals in the victory while
Jordy McManus,
Cole Whitworth and
Matt Dean each found the back of the net once. McManus and Shurson led the Bees with two assists while
Justin Sicard had one. Sicard also won 12-of-15 face-offs for the Bees.
Matt Dean led the SCAD defense with five ground balls while
Dan Comite,
Cody Hoerauf, and
Erik Elmquist each recorded four.
Wade Winebrenner (five) and
Kreyton Polka (three) combined to record eight saves in goal.
