HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – For a second consecutive day, the SCAD Savannah men's lacrosse team defeated an opponent by a 15-3 margin.
This time the 10th-ranked Bees, who improved to 7-4, defeated Southern Virginia University, who fell to 2-4, Saturday (March 19) afternoon at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
SCAD took a 2-0 lead as
Jordy McManus, who registered four goals, scored two quick goals before Southern Virginia tied the match at 2 with 14.4 seconds remaining in the first quarter on Ben Dieker's score. The Bees score three times – twice by
Trey McKay and once by
Mike McQuaid – to take a 5-2 lead with 2:08 remaining in the half.
The Knight scored for the final time with 33.7 seconds left before halftime on another Dieker score. SCAD would outscore the Knights 10-0 in the second half as goalie
Wade Winebrenner pitched a shutout.
McKay led the Bees with five goals while McQuaid had two.
Michael Molinaro,
Darren Martin,
Matt Dean and
Erik Elmquist each had one score for SCAD. McManus and
Shelton Polka each had two assists while McKay, Molinaro, Dean,
Cody Hoerauf and
Derek Shurson contributed one apiece.
SCAD returns to action Saturday (March 26) with a 4 p.m. contest against Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.
