Embry-RIddle (Fla.), Northwood (Fla.) advance to Sunday's final

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University and Northwood (Fla.) University won their semifinal matches at the 2010 The Sun Conference Women's Tennis Tournament Saturday (April 17) at the Bacon Park Tennis Courts.

The sixth-ranked and top-seeded Eagles of Embry-Riddle shut out No. 4 seed Bobcats of St. Thomas 5-0. Ninth-ranked Northwood, which is the No. 2 seed in the tournament, edged No. 3 seed SCAD, which is ranked No. 11 nationally, 5-3 in the other.

The Eagles and Seahawks, along with SCAD, each shared the conference's regular-season title. For the second consecutive year, Northwood advances to the 10 a.m. tournament title match Sunday (April 18) while Embry-Riddle returns after a one-year absence.

Embry-Riddle only dropped eight games in its win over the Bobcats. Northwood jumped out to a 4-1 lead before SCAD got wins from Romina Mrochen at No. 1 (6-4, 6-4) and Stephanie Gula at No. 5 (6-3, 6-0) singles to close within a single point. Prisella Duarte clinched the match for the Seahawks at No. 4 singles when she held off Charlotte Debrey 6-1, 7-5.
