CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The SCAD Savannah men's swimming team competed this weekend against Catawba College, Queens University of North Carolina and Wingate University in a quad meet at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.
SCAD swept all three opponents – Catawba (250-56), Queens (196-117) and Wingate (169-145) – to run its record to 5-1. SCAD returns to Charlotte, N.C., to take part in the Wingate Fall Frenzy Nov. 20-21.
SCAD won 10 of the 17 events that were contested over the two-day meet.
The Bees had three swimmers pick up multiple individual wins.
Alex Graudins won three events – 500-yard freestyle (4:33.61), 1,000 freestyle (9:27.34) and 200 freestyle (1:41.54) – while
Mike Lawrence,
Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky and Liz Roberts each recorded two. Lawrence won the 100 breaststroke (59.11) and the 200 breaststroke (2:10.85) events while Pushkar-Verbitsky captured the 50 freestyle (20.84) and 100 butterfly (49.62).
SCAD also captured wins in three relay events. The Bees won the 400 medley (
Stephen Sullivan, Lawrence, Pushkar-Verbitsky, Graudins – 3:27.83), 200 medley (Sullivan, Lawrence, Pushkar-Verbitsky,
Sam Crawford - 1:36.42) and 400 freestyle (Crawford, Graudins,
Bartos Scharmach, Pushkar-Verbitsky – 3:08.78) relays.
