Cougars edge Bees 116-106 in season-opening meet

STATESBORO, Ga. –
The College of Charleston (S.C.) edged SCAD Savannah 116-106 in a men's swim team Saturday (Oct. 23) afternoon at the Recreation Activity Center on the Georgia Southern University campus.

SCAD, which fell to 0-1, won eight of the 13 events that were competed in the meet.

Alex Graudins and Stephen Sullivan were each double winners for the Bees. Graudins won the men's 500- (4:36.69) and 1,000-yard (9:38.76) events while Sullivan captured the 400 individual medley (4:19.69) and the 200 backstroke (1:58.56). Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky (men's 50 freestyle, 21.24), Chris Wilson (men's 200 butterfly, 1:59.86) and Mike Lawrence (men's 200 breaststroke, 2:12.39) also picked up wins for the Bees.

The quartet of the Sullivan, Lawrence, Pushkar-Verbitsky and Sam Crawford also led the Bees to a victory in the men's 400 medley relay with a time of 3:32.40.

SCAD will return to the pool Friday (Oct. 29) with a 4 p.m. meet against Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla.
