Bees handle Moccasins 116-79 to open season

LAKELAND, Fla. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design men's swimming team open their 2009-10 season with a 116-79 victory over Florida Southern College Friday (Oct. 30) afternoon at the Hollis Wellness Center Pool.

SCAD improved to 1-0 and will return to action at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Oct. 31) with a meet against the University of Tampa.

The Bees had the fastest times in eight of the 11 events competed against the Moccasins, including both relays.

SCAD had two multiple winners in the meet as Alex Graudins and Sam Crawford each tallied two individual wins. Graudins set a university record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:47.04, lowering by nearly seven seconds the previous record set by Jonathan Moore (9:53.96) almost five years ago. Graudins also had the fastest time in the 500 freestyle (4:45.58). Crawford took wins in the 100 freestyle (49.76) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.02) events.

Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky (50 freestyle, 21.31) and Thomas Gibson (200 individual medley, 2:03.87) also picked up wins for the Bees.
