Bees start 2009 with win win over Asbury

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design men's swimming team returned to the pool for the first time in 2009 Saturday (Jan. 10) afternoon and came away with a 115-83 victory over Asbury College.

The third-ranked Bees improved to 5-3 on the season. SCAD returns to action Saturday (Jan. 17) when they travel to Wingate, N.C., to take on NCAA Division II's Wingate University.

Danny Recordon (50 freestyle - 21.18), Bartos Scharmach (400 individual medley - 4:23.76), Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky (100 freestyle - 47.98) and Michael Lawrence (200 breaststroke - 2:11.55) earned victories for the Bees.

In the process of picking up the win, the Bees now have every swimmer qualified at least one event for the upcoming NAIA National Championship that will be held in St. Charles, Mo., March 4-7. It's the fifth consecutive season the Bees have accomplished the feat.
