SCAD Women’s Cross Country Runner Jessy Scarpone has been selected as Student-Artist-Athlete Player of the Week for Oct. 6-12.

Scarpone participated in the Queens Royal 5K Invitational on October 11 in Charlotte, NC.   She ran against 292 other participants from 31 colleges in the non-NCAA Division 1 event.

Scarpone ran the 5K event and finished first.  Her time of 17:51 was just 22 seconds faster than teammate Lotti Zeiler, who finished second, and 39 seconds faster than the third place finisher at the event.

Scarpone’s finish is the second championship in-a-row for the SCAD sophomore.  She finished first in the UNC-Charlotte 6K Invite on September 29.

Combined with her 4 fastest teammates, the Lady Bees shattered the best 5K Top Five average for SCAD in its history.  Her time of 17:51 earned her a place among the top 15 All-Time 5K times in SCAD’s cross-country program history.  In addition to the SCAD honor, Scarpone's finish at the Queens Royal 5K Invitational earned her The Sun Conference "Female Runner of the Week."

Scarpone is an Illustration major and carries a 3.4 GPA.

Other worthy considerations were Emanuel Krieg (M. Cross Country), Lotti Zeiler (w. Cross Country), Jordan Trinci-Lyne and Tom Rouine (M. Soccer) and Sara Hall and Meadhbh Deeney (W. Soccer).

Congratulations to Jessy Scarpone in her “Student-Artist-Athlete Player of the Week” award.  This is the 6th time that Scarpone has won this recognition.
