Rebecca Gunn is entering her 20th year with SCAD and her 11th season as head coach of the women's soccer team, having taken over the program in November 2013.
Gunn, the NAIA Coach of the Year, led the Bees to their first-ever NAIA National Championship Title in 2024 with a 20-1-2 overall record. After hosting and defeating Georgia Gwinnett College in the second round of the NAIA National Championship tournament, the Bees advanced to the final site for the first time in program history. SCAD won four straight games, including three shutouts, to bring home the Championship. After the historic season concluded, the team received multiple All-American honors including four NAIA All-Americans, two College Sports Communicators All-Americans, two United Soccer Coaches All-Americans, 15 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, and seven First-Team All-Sun Conference members. The Bees earned four Sun Conference major awards: Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Golden Glove, and Freshman of the Year.
In addition to the team accomplishments, Coach Gunn also received the NAIA Coach of the Year Award and the staff received the United Soccer Coaches Coaching Staff of the Year Award. During the 2024 season Coach Gunn also achieved her 100th win for her coaching career.
Under Coach Gunn, Scad has produced 18 NAIA All Americans as well as 6 United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and 45 All-Conference team members
Prior to becoming the head coach of the Bees, Gunn served as an assistant coach for the women's soccer program for the previous eight seasons.
Gunn came to SCAD after serving as an assistant coach for the University of Minnesota-Morris (UMM) women's soccer team. She was a four-year standout for the Cougars as a three-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference selection, as well as an All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) performer. She was named the UMAC Co-Player of the Year in 2003.
Gunn currently holds UMM records for goals (55), assists (45), and points (155) in a career. She also scored 11 match-winning goals in her career for the Cougars and is one of 15 players in the nation to achieve at least 40 goals and 40 assists in her career.
In 2016, Gunn was inducted into the University of Minnesota-Morris Hall of Fame.
Gunn graduated from UMM in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in sports management. She holds a State Goalkeeping Diploma as well as a National License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She also holds a “D” License from the United States Soccer Federation.
