Pat Page

Coach Pat Page embodies the heart of an athlete and the soul of an artist, having achieved remarkable success in both arenas. This unique dual perspective recently culminated in an outstanding 2024-2025 season, earning Page the SUN Men's Tennis Coach of the Year honors at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
Before transitioning to coaching, Page built a formidable competitive tennis career. After serving as team captain at the University of Detroit, Page achieved top-tier rankings, reaching as high as No. 5 Nationally in Singles and No. 1 in the South for Doubles. Page also holds the rare distinction of having served as a practice and doubles partner to tennis legend Rod Laver.
Remarkably, Page's athletic achievements were matched by a highly successful career in the entertainment industry. Page created, wrote, and produced the hit CBS prime-time television show Early Edition—all while continuing to compete in national tennis tournaments. This artistic background later brought Page to SCAD Savannah to share this expertise as a collegiate screenwriting professor.
Equipped with a Master of Science from the School of Kinesiology, with an emphasis on psychology, physiology, and skill enhancement, Page builds a coaching foundation on science and tactical precision. Having previously served as the Assistant Coach for Michigan State Women's Tennis, Page stays current on coaching science to design motivational, skill-enhancing practices and to identify critical in-game match strategies for artist-athletes.
Page’s coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in empowerment and holistic development. "I firmly believe that the players I have coached are better than they think they are," Page explains. "To move them forward, I remind them of their talents, what they have accomplished, and what they can do. I illuminate the path they are taking and help them develop problem-solving skills for on and off the court."
For Page, stepping into the head coaching role at SCAD represents the perfect synthesis of a life spent balancing sports and the arts. "To become the head coach at SCAD is a natural evolution of my career trajectory," Page notes, "and my goal is to engage with the students to provide them a first-class, positive athletic and artistic college experience."
