WEST POINT, Ga. — The No. 4 SCAD Savannah men's lacrosse team faced a narrow 13-12 defeat on the road against Point University on Saturday afternoon. Despite a late fourth-quarter surge, the Bees could not overcome a high-scoring final frame by the Skyhawks.
RECORDS: The Bees now stand at 12-3 overall and 5-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play, while the Skyhawks are now 8-6, 3-4 AAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Point jumped to an early 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game, however
Noah Moreland, off an assist from
Travis Cheristin made it one-all at the 7:53 mark. The two teams traded goals throughout the remaining opening period, with Moreland and
Mason Hickman adding a strike off assists from
Sebastian Manuel to give SCAD a 3-2 advantage heading into the first break.
Just under two minutes into the second quarter,
Jonathan O'Bryant Graves made it a 4-2 game in favor of the Bees, but back-to-back goals from the Skyhawks knotted the game at four-all with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. Gordan Beck (assisted by Moreland) gave SCAD the lead (5-4) once again and a goal from Hickman at the 4:40 mark extended the Bees' lead to 6-4 at the halftime break.
SCAD extended that momentum into the third quarter, with Manuel and Moreland (2) each scoring to maintain a 10-7 lead heading into the final quarter.
However, Point responded with a dominant six-goal fourth quarter to reclaim the lead.
Eli Phillips and Manuel scored the last two SCAD goals with Manuel's coming off an assist from Phillips with 7:19 remaining to give the Bees a 12-10 lead, but the Skyhawks scored three unanswered goals to end the game with the one-goal win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Noah Moreland led all players with a game-high five points on four goals and one assist while
Sebastian Manuel totaled two goals and two assists for four points.
Jonathan O'Bryant Graved and
Mason Hickman added two goals apiece, while
Eli Phillips totaled one goal and one assist and
Gordon Beck added one goal.
Logan Ortigosa and
Travis Cheristin added one assist each to the stat sheet.
Conor Marr led the defense with two caused turnovers and a team-high five ground balls.
