BECKLEY, W.Va. – A strong first-half surge and steady play across the pitch lifted the No.1 SCAD women's soccer team to a 4–0 road win over West Virginia Tech on Monday afternoon at Paul Cline Stadium. With the result, the Bees move to 2–0 on the young season.
The match began with WVU Tech pressing high and creating some early energy, but the Bees remained patient and found their breakthrough midway through the opening half. A tactical substitution in the 16th minute brought Cali Wuestefeld onto the field, and the sophomore immediately made her presence felt. Slipping in behind the Golden Bears' defense, Wuestefeld collected a well-timed ball and finished confidently past the goalkeeper in the 25th minute.Just minutes later, SCAD doubled its advantage through a sharp piece of team play. Aleca Garcia Velaza drove down the left side and sent a ball across the box, where Mia Gomez was waiting at the back post to slot home the finish. The strike gave the Bees a 2–0 cushion and highlighted the depth of their attacking options.
The momentum only grew from there. In the 33rd minute, Mina Haggström delivered a perfectly placed free kick into the penalty area, where Ida Åkesson rose above her defender and powered a header into the net. With a commanding 3–0 lead at halftime, the Bees were in full control.
Still, SCAD didn't take its foot off the gas. Early in the second half, Haidyn Jenkins added a highlight-reel finish from a set piece. Standing over a free kick just outside the box, Jenkins curled her strike over a three-player wall and into the near post. The WVU Tech keeper managed to get a fingertip on the ball, but the shot carried too much pace, tucking into the back of the net for the Bees' fourth and final goal of the afternoon.
While the attack grabbed the headlines, SCAD's defensive unit was equally impressive. Center backs Lois Beer and Emilia Irle anchored a disciplined back line that absorbed WVU Tech's pressure and limited their chances. Goalkeeper Saga Bryntesson turned away four shots en route to her second straight shutout to start the season.
From the moment Wuestefeld's first goal broke the deadlock, the Bees never looked back—showcasing depth, composure, and a balanced effort on both sides of the ball.
SCAD will look to carry its early-season momentum into the weekend when the Bees return to action on August 30th to take on Georgia Gwinnett.
