Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Road Win Over Ave Maria

AVE MARIA, FL – The No.1 SCAD women's lacrosse team continued their strong performance this season, defeating No. RV Ave Maria (FL) with a resounding score of 17-10 on March 20, 2025, improving their record to 9-1 (2-0 SUN). 

RECORDS: The Bees are now 9-1 (SUN 2-0), while Ave Maria falls to 3-7 (SUN 1-1). 

HOW IT HAPPENED: The match opened with a competitive first quarter, showcasing both teams' determination. Ellen Benintendi netted the first goal for the Bees at the 14:44 mark, followed by another goal from her shortly after, allowing SCAD to tie the game at 2-2. Despite the scoring from Ave Maria, the Bees stayed resilient with Riley O'Keefe contributing a goal to keep pace. 

The second quarter saw SCAD take control, with Benintendi scoring two more unassisted goals, bringing her total to six by halftime. An impressive defensive effort combined with strategic offensive plays helped SCAD gain a crucial 7-6 lead at the break. 

In the third quarter, the Bees showcased their offensive prowess, with goals from McKinsey Brown and Annise Berkeley helping to widen the margin. The Bees exploded for five goals in the third and continued this momentum into the fourth quarter. 

The scoring frenzy continued as Karley Holland dominated, contributing multiple goals, including a pair of free position shots, solidifying SCAD's lead. Annise Berkeley, too, played a pivotal role with three goals and one assist, showcasing her capacity to make impactful plays. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Ellen Benintendi led the Bees with an impressive six goals, while Karley Holland followed closely with five goals. Annise Berkeley not only scored four times but also provided one assist. McKinsey Brown added two goals and an assist to her tally. 

Goalkeeper Chloe Zundel shined with 11 saves, contributing significantly to SCAD's defensive performance.
