HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – A hard-fought battle ended in heartbreak for SCAD on Wednesday afternoon, as the Bees fell 2–1 to Southeastern University after conceding a decisive goal in the 89th minute at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
SCAD (6–5–1, 2–1–0) matched Southeastern stride for stride throughout the match, generating consistent pressure and controlling much of the first half. The Bees held a narrow 7–6 edge in first-half shots and forced four corner kicks in the opening 35 minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net despite several dangerous looks from Mia Gomez and Cali Wuestefeld.
After a scoreless opening period, Southeastern broke through in the 50th minute when Sara Irurozki converted a feed from Carmen Garcia Llanes to give the Fire a 1–0 advantage. SCAD responded with determination, keeping their composure and gradually reclaiming possession.
Their persistence paid off in the 79th minute when substitute Clara Howe made an immediate impact, slotting home the equalizer off an assist from Mina Häggström. The goal marked Howe's first of the season and reignited momentum for the Bees heading into the final stretch.
However, Southeastern capitalized on a late push, scoring the game-winner in the 90th minute through Danielle Vogel, assisted by Emily Fux and Ariadna Lozano, to escape with the 2–1 win.
Despite the loss, goalkeeper Saga Bryntesson was a standout performer for SCAD, registering five saves while facing 13 total shots. Lois Beer anchored the back line with a composed 90-minute effort, and Gomez led the attack with three shots, two on target.
SCAD showed resilience and creativity throughout, outpacing Southeastern in corners (5–4) and committing fewer fouls (7–13). Still, missed opportunities and a late defensive lapse proved costly.
The Bees will look to rebound as conference play continues this week
