Men’s Soccer Opens SUN Action with 4-2 Win Over New College of Florida

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The SCAD men's soccer team hosted New College of Florida in its Sun Conference opener on Wednesday night and won 4-2 over the Mighty Banyans.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are now 3-2-2, 1-0-0 SUN, while the Might Banyans are 1-3-2, 0-2-0 SUN.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD opened the scoring when Caio Lara found the back of the net in the eighth minute with an assist from Moritz Prattes and Raffael Mohr to give SCAD a quick 1-0 lead.
 
The Bees doubled their lead in the 33rd minute as Mario Goic extended his scoring streak to three straight games. Mohr picked up his second assist of the game on Goic's goal. SCAD took the 2-0 lead into halftime as the Bees held New College of Florida to only one more shot in the first half.
 
Back-to-back goals for the Mighty Banyans in the 47th and 53rd minutes knotted the game at two-all, but SCAD answered with a goal from Goic eight minutes later to reclaim the lead (3-2).
 
A header from Kimi Husler off a corner kick from Goic gave the Bees an insurance goal as SCAD went up 4-2 with 77:02 on the clock. The Bees would not need the extra goal as the defense locked down New College of Florida to earn the 4-2 win.
 
KEY PERFORMERS:
  • Mario Goic scored two goals on three shots and added an assist to up his scoring streak to three consecutive games.
  • Raffael Mohr added two assists, creating scoring opportunities.
  • Kimi Husler led a Bees defense that only allowed three shots on goal while also scoring a goal of his own.
