WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 4 SCAD women's lacrosse team won the 2024 Sun Conference Championship Title with a 13-12 win over No. 6 Keiser University on Saturday.
DID YOU KNOW? This is the second consecutive year in which the Bees have won the SUN tournament title, and SCAD is the only team to have won it. SCAD also won the Sun Conference Regular Season with a perfect 6-0 record in conference action.
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 13-5, while the Seahawks are now 11-7 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Keiser scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the first quarter. SCAD answered a minute later to tie it one-all. The Seahawks managed three more goals in the quarter, but the Bees scored four to take a 5-4 lead into the second quarter.
SCAD scored the first two goals in the second quarter to increase the lead to 7-4. Keiser answered with their own goal at the 11:20 mark, but the Bees totaled three more to the Seahawks' one to go up 10-6 heading into halftime.
The Seahawks scored the first two goals in the third quarter to come within two (10-8) with 12:48 remaining in the quarter. SCAD responded with a goal at the 11:51 mark to increase its lead to 11-8. Keiser scored the last goal at 9:44 for the Bees to go into the final quarter up 11-9.
Three goals from the Seahawks to start the final quarter gave Keiser its first lead (12-11) since the first quarter but it would not be enough as SCAD scored the last two goals of the game to to win 13-12.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: At the conclusion of the tournament,
Clarke Haas,
Lorna Fowles,
Grace Gibson,
Annise Berkeley, and
Keagan Plume were named to the All-Tournament Team;
Clarke Haas was named the Tournament MVP.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Clarke Haas led the Bees' offense with six goals and six points while picking up a game-high eight draw controls.
Annise Berkeley and
Keagan Plume each totaled three points, with Berkeley scoring three goals and Plume adding three assists.
Eden Ali,
Emma Roch,
MaryGrace Gordon, and
McKinsey Brown each had one goal. Ali added a game-high five caused turnovers, with
Grace Gibson adding three.
Emma Roch,
Sophia Bluso, and
Natalie Palmeri totaled two caused turnovers.
100 DRAW CONTROLS: Annise Berkeley totaled five draw controls. Her third draw control of the game was her 100
th of the season.
Goalie
Lorna Fowles totaled eight saves in her 60 minutes of work to earn the win.
WHAT'S NEXT? With this win, the Bees earned the automatic bid to the 2024 NAIA National Championships, and SCAD will wait to see who they will face in the opening round on May 1.
