Men’s Lacrosse Opens Season With 8-6 Win

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The SCAD men's lacrosse team opened the season on Saturday with an 8-6 win over the visiting Trojans of Taylor University.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are 1-0 to start the season, while the Trojans are 0-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Jordan Reeves scored the first goal of the game just over two minutes into the first quarter to give the Bees an early 1-0 lead.
 
Taylor answered with two unanswered goals to go into the second quarter up 2-1.
 
Theron Turnbull knotted the game at 2-2 two minutes into the second quarter. Three minutes later, Sebastian Manuel scored to give the Bees a 3-2 lead, a lead SCAD would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
 
Logan Origosa, assisted by Jordan Reeves, made it a 4-2 game going into halftime.
 
SCAD scored back-to-back goals from Michael Mowers (assisted by Theron Turnbull) and Evan Baker to take a 6-2 lead with 6:53 on the clock in the third quarter.
 
Taylor scored two goals in the last six minutes of the third quarter with SCAD's Michael Mowers, off an assist from Evan Baker, adding one more to give the Bees a 7-4 lead at the end of the third quarter.
 
The Trojans scored two goals to start the fourth quarter to come within one (7-6), but it would not be enough as SCAD's Max Williams scored the final goal of the game at the 10:15 mark to give SCAD the 8-6 win.
 
DID YOU KNOW? Coach Justin Moe is in his first season with the Bees, and with this win, he earned his first collegiate win as a Head Coach.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Seven SCAD players combined to score eight goals – Michael Mowers (2), Max Williams, Jordan Reeves, Logan Origosa, Sebastian Manuel, Evan Baker, and Theron Turnbull.
 
Jordan Reeves, Evan Baker, and Theron Turnbull added one assist, while Reeves had a game-high six ground balls.
 
In his first collegiate start, goalie Luke Lamendola picked up the win with nine saves in his 60 minutes of work. Kevin Curry totaled six face-off wins, with Lucas Martinez totaling five.
 
COACH MOE: Head Coach Justin Moe had this to say about the game - "This is a great start to the year. The guys have been working hard in practice, and I am super excited to see that hard work translate to the field. They played four quarters together, which is what we have been striving towards. We are going to enjoy the day and get right back to work."
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will host Georgia College and State University's club team in an exhibition game on Saturday, February 3, at 2:00 p.m.
