No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse Runner-Up at NAIA National Championship

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 5 SCAD women's lacrosse team competed in the NAIA National Championship final game against No. 2 Lawrence Technological University, losing in overtime 16-15.
 
RECORDS: The Bees finish their season 12-6 while the Blue Devils are 17-1.
 
DID YOU KNOW?  Aly De Caro scored her 14th goal of the tournament along with her 17th point, both of which set a new NAIA Tournament record. Clarke Haas also set a NAIA Tournament record with scoring nine goals in a game. Goalie Lorna Fowles also tied with the NAIA Tournament record of 17 saves in a game.
 
Haas, De Caro and Fowles all earned the honor of 2023 NAIA All-Tournament Team.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD started the first quarter off strong with three consecutive goals four minutes into the game. Annise Berkeley (Massillon, Ohio / Architecture) scored the first goal only 17 seconds into the quarter while Clarke Haas (Pensacola, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) assisted by Emma Roch (Savannah, Ga. / Fashion Marketing and Management) scored two minutes later. Haas scored again at the 11:08 mark. Lawrence Tech scored their first goal but was quickly answered with a goal from Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding). The Blue Devils scored once more in the first while the Bees scored a last-minute goal at the 00:15 mark giving SCAD the 5-2 lead going into the second.
 
Lawrence Tech had a scoring streak in the second with seven consecutive goals before Haas assisted by De Caro was able to score. The Blue Devils scored once again, but the Bees scored once from Haas and again from Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Architecture) to put the score at 10-8 in favor of Lawrence Tech going into the half.
 
Roch started the scoring for in the third quarter at the 12:02 mark. The Blue Devils scored the second goal, but De Caro assisted by Berkeley and Haas scored seconds apart to tie the score 11-11. Lawrence Tech scored two more goals split by De Caro assisted by Ainsley Jones (Harvard, Mass. / Graphic Design) and Haas to bring the score to 13-13 going into the last quarter.
 
The scoring in the fourth was started when Haas, assisted by De Caro once, scored two back-to-back goals. The Blue Devils were able to score two goals at the end of the fourth to tie the score at 15-15 causing the teams to go into overtime.
 
At the 3:11 mark, Lawrence Tech scored to end the game 16-15.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Haas made the record breaking nine goals in one game of the NAIA Tournament as well as gaining control of two control, one caused turnover and one draw control.
 
De Caro scored a total of three goals, made two assists giving her five points. She also had one caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls.
 
Kambria Barry (Orlando, Fla. / Architecture) had the game high of four ground balls while Berkeley had the team high of five draw controls as well as one goal, one assist, and one ground ball.
 
Goalie Lorna Fowles (Petaluma, Calif. / Animation) made 17 saves, a team high of three caused turnovers, and three ground balls in her 63 mintues of work.
